Devin Williams CEO, Spry Learning Company Devin Williams is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Spry Learning Company. Devin Co-founded Spry after graduating with an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1999. Prior to business school, Devin worked at Sega GameWorks, an entertainment start-up backed by Universal Pictures, Dreamworks SKG, and Sega Corporation. During her tenure at GameWorks, Ms. Williams focused on financing and feasibility of novel game development for large-scale virtual reality games, and financing and implementation of their high-growth retail rollout. Prior to GameWorks, Ms. Williams worked in corporate finance at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette (Acquired CSFB in 1999). Holly B. Jimison, PhD. Senior Researcher Holly Jimison is responsible for monitoring and algorithm development, user interface design, and managing all in-home pilot testing and long-term testing of the software. Holly received her Doctorate in Medical Information Sciences at Stanford University with dissertation work on using computer decision models to tailor patient education materials to individuals. She is also on the faculty on Medical Informatics & Clinical Epidemiology at Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU). Holly has industry and academic experience in developing successful home monitoring technologies. Projects include voice-controlled interfaces for elders in the home, and monitoring computer interactions for the early detection of dementia. Misha Pavel, PhD. Senior Researcher Misha Pavel is focused on the cognitive mapping of the games, the algorithm development including user models, characterization of variability, and trend detection. Misha is also a professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering with a joint appointment in Computer Science and Engineering at OHSU. His previous experience includes time on the faculties of both New York University and Stanford University, as well as a turn as a member of the technical staff at Bell Laboratories. Misha’s main area of research is at the intersection of engineering and cognitive science, with a focus on information fusion, pattern recognition, augmented cognition and the development of multimodal and perceptual human-computer interfaces. Payton Bissell Technical Lead Payton Bissel is responsible for the software architecture and implementation, data transfer protocols and quality assurance testing. Payton has over 16 years developing enterprise and consumer grade software for the Financial, Aerospace, Oil Production and IT Professional markets. He specializes in developing large robust and scaleable multi-tier analytical database solutions. His clients have included Motorola, Intel, the US Army, NIH, Bank of America, BankOne, Fidelity, and Citibank. Ben Carmel Project Manager Ben Carmel is responsible for coordinating and managing the various projects at Spry. He brings his experience as an Instructional Designer in the development of on-line training programs for leading Fortune 500 companies to the team. Ben is also responsible for communications (such as press releases, Web-site content, etc.), project reporting, scheduling, and overall project functioning. When time allows, Ben also leans on his experience to help in other writing capacities, research assistance, interface design, testing, training and subject recruitment. James “Zephy” McCanna Programmer James received his undergraduate training from Macalester College, with a triple major in Computer Science, Psychology, and Neuroscience. In addition to being a programmer and analyzing game data at Spry Learning, James has a range of interests from artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhanced cognition and the aging process. James also has a particular passion for computer games which he enjoys utilizing in a research setting. Kathy Wild, PhD. Clinical Subcontractor, OHSU Katherine Wild is the Site Principle Investigator at OHSU’s Layton Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease Center (LAADC). She received her Ph.D. in Health Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University in New York. Kathy brings her expertise in Alzheimer’s Disease and work with the cognitively impaired to the NIST project team. She consults with the team on matters related to cognitive decline among the elderly. Kathy is also involved in cognitive mapping of the games and in measuring the ability of various proposed games to detect cognitive decline.
